Harmonization of National Diplomacies and the EEAS

Jiří Borcel

Jiří Borcel is the Deputy Director of the Department of Common Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. He worked as a Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Denmark, as a Second Secretary with responsibility for the EU Affairs at the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and as a secretary at the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Norway.

Jiří Blažek

Jiří Blažek, a Czech diplomat, between 2010 and 2012 worked as a seconded national expert for disarmament at the EU delegation to the UN Office in Geneva at the critical moment of the creation of the EEAS. Having a 12 years’ experience with UN system, he coordinated the common EU positions for the Conference on Disarmament and other non-proliferation forums, and helped the EEAS to obtain a status recognized by non-EU members and Secretariat of the UN.

Pascual Navarro Ríos

Pascual Navarro Ríos, H. E. is the ambassador of Spain to the Czech Republic since October 2011. Previously he served as the head of the Department of Immigration and Passport Refugees and an adviser in the Directorate General for Legal and Consular Affairs. In 2005, he was appointed Deputy Director General for Cooperation with Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean in the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development. From 2008 to 2011, Mr. Ríos was the Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for the European Union.

Gerhard Sabathil

Gerhard Sabathil is the Director for East Asia and the Pacific in the European External Action Service, of which he was the Inspector General in 2011. As the European Commission official since 1984, he was the UN Alliance of Civilizations Coordinator of the EU until April 2012, as he was Director for the Foreign Policy Strategy and Coordination of the former Directorate General for External Relations of the Commission since 2008. Since 1996, he has been a guest professor at the University of Economics in Prague and since 2010 at the European College in Brugge. He is a member of several boards of NGOs and institutes and author of many articles, in the field of Foreign and European Policy.
